Social Robots

A European Research Council funded Social Neuroscience Research Project

Interested in joining #Teamsobots?

then you’ve come to the right place!

We are currently recruiting a new PhD student (and soon 2 postdoc and 1 programmer positions) for the Sydney wing of the lab at Macquarie University (visit the SoBA Lab website for more details about WHY Australia!), and we are always happy to accept applications for volunteer internships from interested students (for internships in Glasgow OR Sydney).

PhD POSITION

The successful candidate will work together with Professor Cross to devise a rigorous programme of research to address novel questions in social and cognitive neuroscience using a combination of behavioural measures and state-of-the-art human neuroscience techniques (fMRI, fNIRS, TMS, MEG), whilst fully embracing open science best practice and the reform agenda from the credibility revolution. The successful candidate will be supported to develop a theme of research that explores experience-dependent plasticity in the human brain, and how such learning enables us to make sense of the dynamic and complex social information that we experience in everyday life. The Social Brain in Action’s major areas of research expertise include social robotics, action learning and expertise, and neuroaesthetics, and the successful candidate would be encouraged to devise a line of research fitting with one or more of these research areas. Applicants with experience in robotics/AI or the arts, or with research interests in other areas of social and cognitive neuroscience are also strongly encouraged to apply. Start date is flexible (sometime between August - October 2020 preferred).

Please go here to submit your application through Macquarie’s official PhD portal.

Closing date for applications: 30 April 2020, 11pm AEST
